Homemade Veggie Soup! {1.28.13}

I’d have to say that one of my favorite things to “cook” is SOUP.  They are fun to make, eat, serve and  smell!  They are even more enjoyable in the winter months of course, but I enjoy making them all year round.  I think one huge reason why I love making soups is that they’re easy to modify if you’ve added too much of something or if you don’t have enough of another thing.  You can hide your mistakes easily through the creation of soup and that’s just great!!

Sunsets in January {1.14.13}

Matt had been gone for a week in Vegas for work and we missed him so much!  A week with the kids by myself isn’t easy!  I gained a whole new respect for single Mom’s and I only did it for a week!  It’s hard work to say the least!  So Matt returned on Friday night and we had a recovery type of weekend as it wasn’t entirely ALL business out there in Vegas…there was some “work hard/play hard type of play.  So anyway, it was Sunday morning and we got to the box and made up some WOD’s at open gym.  We had some quality family time during the afternoon and evening too.  The day was a perfect re-charge for the upcoming week.

We like to cruise up to this spot over by Meadow’s Park, right up the street from us.  There’s a lake and a trail to let the dog off leash so she can rome.  We have been feeling SO BAD for Whiskey (our dog) lately because we haven’t been able to get her out as much!  It’s so sad!  We are going to make more of an effort to get her out of the house at least once every other day.  It’s just different in the winter months because by the time Matt gets home from work, it’s already dark outside and I’m usually in the middle of cooking dinner.  Another factor is that we’re just so darn busy and it’s really not fair for her.  So, we are making her a huge priority again– now that we are into some sort of a routine with juggling life with 2 kids!  …And a dog.  After all, she was the first one into our family!

Whiskey’s heaven

We bundled the kids up in the stroller and walked up to the lake and strolled all the way around and up through the hills.  We saw the most beautiful sunset!!  It was a great opportunity for some pics :D  Courtesy of me, myself and I!  Just thought I’d share these.  I just love nights like this.  They’re the best!!!  Family is so precious.  I have to stop and remind myself how lucky and fortunate I am.  Every day.

Kisses at sunset

Be My Valentine! {1.13.13}

Well, this year I kind of got into Valentine’s Day a little early.  Like a month early!  I usually don’t even really decorate for Valentine’s Day but I felt inspired this year for some reason.  Maybe it’s because I have a little girl.  Awwweee!  And after browsing Pinterest one late night in bed, I found a few fun projects that looked relatively cheap to make and super fun and cute!  I’m all about AFFORDABLE, STYLISH and CHIC!  So, I decorated a burlap wreath I had previously decorated for Thanksgiving but just took the “Harvest decor” off of it and transformed it into a cute little Valentine wreath.  Having burlap as a background or base is the best!  It’s got great texture, is neutral, chic and has a fun country, vintage feel.  My favorite!!  My other project is a Valentine banner that hangs from my mantle.  Of course, made out of burlap as well.  Gotta keep the theme going but not over do it.  I will have to Pin these to my Pinterest page soon :) Continue reading

My baby has chompers! {12.31.12}

How did 6 months already pass by?  I mean really!?  It didn’t go by that quick with Jake!  Where has the time gone???  I guess life is just that much busier with 2.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.  They are my entire world and I just can’t believe they’re mine!!!  Well, needless to say, Finnley is now 6 months old and has her first two teeth!  Kind of a big deal for a Mom, but I suppose not that exciting.  It just changes her whole look and is now starting to look like a baby instead of an infant.  Crazy how the time flies!

I have this book next to my bed on my nightstand and it is strictly for writing about the kids.  Any milestones, funny happenings, findings, new realizations, things they say, etc.  I wrote in it for about the first two months of Finnley’s life and have just not been able to keep up!  Waaaay too much has happened in such a short amount of time!  I didn’t think it would all feel like this, but it surely does.  What a crazy life this is.

So, as Finnley turned 6 months old (her sweet little half birthday), two huge things happened.  She got two bottom toofers, like on the DAY and she also started crawling about a week before that…  Whoa!!!  Slow down little girl.  We started noticing her early crawling in the beginning of December.  She was on the move but would army crawl around… then all of a sudden I noticed her moving around a lot more.  I would set her someplace and look back and she was gone.  She would be down the hall by the laundry room…Ummmmmm.  SHIT!  My baby is on the move.  Time to bust out those gates again!  My head is constantly spinning!  Where’s Finn…where’s Jake…where am I?!?!  Hahaha.

Jake on the other hand is into 2 year old things, you know…like music!  He’s learning to love music and instruments a lot.  He is always dancing around the house or in the car or at the park or really, wherever!  He asked Santa for drums and a guitar for Christmas and due to his gracious grandmothers, he got both.  LOOK OUT!  We’ve got a musician on our hands!  It is so much fun to see him have such a love and interest for music at such an early age.  I hope he will grow up to be able to plat at least ONE instrument, if not more.  It’s an important one for me.  Everyone’s got their thing, and this is one (of many) for me.

All smiles and 2 big chompers to go with it!

Sweet Finnley and “Friday”

I’ve added a photo from Christmas of Finnley sitting with “Friday” the horse.  Can’t believe how big she’s getting!

Laundry LOADS of fun! {12.28.12}

Twas the Night Before Christmas…when my laundry machine broke!  The last thing that a Mom needs, right smack dab in the middle of the holidays.  A broken washing machine.  Just what I need to think about.  Are we going to try and fix it or is it time to just bite the bullet and go grab new ones?  Still not the most exciting way to spend the day after Christmas.  On the bright side, the washing machine we had came from my gracious Mother-in-law when we moved into our condo in RB in 2007.  So, needless to say, we didn’t pay for it and it had a pretty good run considering it was hers for years prior to that! 45 Day Paleolithic Challenge DONE! {12.21.12}

Wow!  I am a little behind on my posts, but I am still getting used to this blogging world!  Bear with me here…I will get better at this.  I’m coming back to give our results from our 45 day Paleo challenge!  It seems as though it went by reeeeeallllly slow in the beginning, like so slow.  I thought after a week, “how am I really going to ever make it through this shit?!”  But at the same time, now looking back, I feel as though…it was only 45 days!  45 DAYS of my life!  That’s it!  We were being told that this challenge would change our lives, and it surely did.  Weird to say (or hear) but it’s true.  When you think about something in a different light you can truly make anything happen. 45 Day Paleo Challenge {11.16.12}

So Matt and I have been a part of Crossfit for about 3 months now.  We both are already seeing dramatic results in each others’ physique which makes us want to work even harder.  Part of this transformation is having a healthy diet as well.  Matt and I started eating really well during my second pregnancy.  We wanted to eat healthy and maintain a good weight.  For Matt, he wanted to lose weight before the baby came.  So, in an attempt to do so, we ate breakfast and dinner together at home 5 days a week.  We were on our own for lunch.  I know that once Matt is on any kind of “kick” whether it be a health kick or some other lifestyle change, he is gung ho!  He managed to stay on track and actually lose a bunch of weight before our daughter was born.  So stoked for him and his great accomplishment!  Then we joined Crossfit and things got even more serious. Crossfit, my new found love {10.31.12}

Oh Crossfit…how I love thee!  So, I’ll get straight to the point.  I had my second baby in June of 2012 and was eager to get back into shape, so after about 8 or 9 weeks after the baby came, on August 21st, I joined BoomBOX Crossfit.  It was recommended by a few of our friends up here who live and die by it.  They kept saying how much I’ll love it and that it’s nothing like the gym…which I was terrible at.  All the times I had a gym membership, which was on and off for about 15 years, I rarely went.  But when I did, it was a serious waste of time.  I never worked out correctly and there were so many posers all over the place…always!!  It’s so annoying.  Do you really need to wear your sunglasses while working out?   Continue reading

Welcome…to my first Blog! {10.25.12}

I have been looking to start a Blog for a long time now and finally I can say, it’s here!!  There was a lot more to it than I thought.  I know you may not be as excited as myself, but I have had a lot to write about in the last couple of years or so and what better way to do it than on a Blog!

If you are a friend of mine, then you have been invited to read my posts… and for one, being the reason you are here…reading this right now.  I appreciate your presence and really appreciate your feedback!  I am brand new to this blogging thing, but to be quite honest, I like it!  It is a way for me to escape while the kids are down for their afternoon nap.  It’s my time to re-cap on the day, week or month.  I love my life, every perfection and imperfection about it.  …and here is where I’ll share it.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope to see you again soon!
